Winch Drive
What are winch drives?
These winch motors come in two types – permanent magnet and series winding. They both contain a set of coils called an armature and use magnets to rotate the armature. The difference between permanent magnet motors and series wound motors is their construction. Permanent magnet motors use magnets to rotate the armature and are best for light to medium winch jobs. In contrast, string wound motors contain another set of coils within the armature.
Our Products
This series is designed as a winch drive for auxiliary hoisting systems on marine loaders, deck cranes, cable and pipelay tensioners, rubber tire gantry cranes and other marine equipment.
These light-duty winch drives have comprehensive features including:
- Sealed system designed to withstand harsh marine environments;
- increase power density;
- The housing is made of cast iron or steel;
- High radial load bearing provides reliable lifting performance for heavy loads;
- Integrated hydraulic fail-safe negative brake or electromagnetic brake;
- Additional safety features include backstops, torque limiters and sensors, and right-angle configurations.
What is a winch drive used for?
A winch is a mechanical device that pulls a vehicle up or down from a wobbly position. There are several different uses for winches. One of these uses is to free a stuck vehicle. The drive mechanism is usually connected to a winch controller cable that is not long enough to operate the winch next to the vehicle. The cable is too short to allow the driver to safely operate the winch while driving.
The winch can be electric or hydraulic. Both are used to lift heavy objects. The electric motor powers the gear system. When the motor starts, the reel winds the wire rope. The winch can also be powered by the vehicle’s battery.
